About Fact Hub Myanmar: Founded in 2022, FHMM is a non-profit science communication and fact-checking publication based in Myanmar. We share science knowledge in magazine format — building a community that thinks critically, evaluates information carefully, and challenges misinformation. This recruitment is a direct continuation of our September 2025 batch, expanding the editorial team to take on more ambitious goals this year.

Copy-editors are the guardians of language quality. You'll take draft articles from writers and columnists and polish them to meet FHMM's house style — correcting spelling, grammar, sentence structure, flow, and tone. You'll be responsible for the linguistic integrity of everything FHMM publishes, reporting to the Workflow Coordinator and senior editors.

Strong passion for the Myanmar language and deep interest in its correct usage
Confident command of spelling, grammar, and prose style
Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
Some interest in journalism and how publications work
Constructive communication style — you give clear, kind, actionable feedback

  2. Copy-editing for Science Communication

Fact-checkers are FHMM's last line of defence before publication. You'll rigorously evaluate every manuscript for factual accuracy, source credibility, data integrity, citation quality, and potential for misleading readers — then collaborate with writers and editors to correct whatever needs fixing. You'll sit within the Fact-check Team under the Head of Fact-check.

Basic journalism or research background (preferred, not required)
Fluent reading and critical analysis in both Myanmar and English
Intermediate English proficiency — able to read academic papers and international sources
Ability to provide systematic, constructive, and evidence-based feedback
Familiarity with Google Workspace and comfort working within editorial systems
Pre-work Training Courses
  1. Introduction to Media Information Literacy
  2. Fact-checking for Publishing
General Requirements
What All Applicants Need
These apply regardless of which role you're applying for. Position-specific requirements are listed in each role card above.

Bilingual proficiency

Above-basic understanding of both Myanmar and English. You should be comfortable reading science-adjacent texts in both languages.

Love of reading & writing

Genuine interest in reading, writing, and critical analysis — plus an interest in how journalism and science communication work.

Deadline reliability

Ability to meet committed deadlines and work collaboratively with editorial feedback through revision cycles.

Internet access & a device

You'll need reliable internet and a device to attend online training sessions and use FHMM's digital workspace tools.

Respect for editorial standards

Commitment to following FHMM's editorial guidelines, house style, and organisational policies throughout your time as a volunteer.

Growth mindset

Eagerness to learn, improve, and actively participate — FHMM is designed to build your skills, but you need to show up for it.

Not Required
No age restriction — anyone can apply
No prior journalism experience needed
No contract — this is fully volunteer work
No fixed working hours — you set your own schedule
What You Gain
Real Experience. Real Skills.
FHMM's editorial process is designed to give you the kind of experience you'd get working at an actual magazine — not a casual blog or social media account.

Structured Training (1–2 months)

Before you start working, you'll complete a hybrid training programme (self-paced + live sessions) through FHMM's own Learning Management System. Courses vary by role.

Real Magazine Workflow

FHMM's multi-stage editorial pipeline mirrors how professional publications operate — rigorous, demanding, and deeply educational. You'll know what you're doing and why.

Digital Library & Resources

Access to digital tools, an internal resource hub, and a digital library of science literature and references to support your work.

Ongoing Skill Development

Additional training is added regularly. You'll also get access to expert-led workshops and webinars from professionals connected to FHMM — often free of charge.

Performance Appraisals

Regular appraisal sessions help you understand your strengths and areas for growth — with constructive, personalised feedback from editorial leads.

Certificates & References

You can request a completion certificate and a personalised recommendation letter from FHMM leadership to support your academic or professional journey.
